Liturgy

Liturgy is the structure that we use for our period services. The word liturgy comes from the Greek meaning “work of the people”. For our Civil War work, we have created Union and Confederate versions of a Field Prayer Book which incorporates liturgy from the 1789 Protestant Episcopal Prayer Book (1845 revision) drawn from www.justus.anglican.org/resources/bcp.

Liturgy is an great way for re-enactors and spectators to participate, providing a script that everyone can follow. We generally do a morning/evening prayer service. There are modern churches that use historic Anglican liturgies and adhere to the ancient, orthodox Christian beliefs that so shaped our history, including various Anglican congregations who have recently realigned with organizations such AMiA, the ANC, CANA, Forward in Faith, and the continuing Anglican churches. One of these churches may be of interest to you.

Music

Music is an important part of worship. The music that we use is from www.cyberhymnal.org, an excellent site that has thousands of hymns with words, midi files, history, etc. For our Civil War Field Prayer Books, we have selected a set of hymns from 1862 or earlier.
