An engraving of the Rev. Charles Wesley Andrews, rector of Trinity Church, Sheperdstown, Virginia from the "Memoir" as he appeared late in life.  Cut of the of coat indicates the early 1870's.
Rev. Charles Wesley Andrews was a prominant Protestant Episcopal theologian and minister of the Victorian-era and served as the Rector of Trinity Church in Sheperdstown, Virginia (now West Virginia) during the Civil War.  Active in a variety of projects, such as the American Colonization Society, he was a prolific writer, such as his "An Apology." published in 1854.  An extensive collection (3600* items) of his papers including his letters are preserved at the Duke Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Chapel Hill, Durham, North Carolina.

During the Battle of First Manassas, he visited the Pringle House (now the Ben Lomond Historic Site, Prince William County) which was used as a field hospital and recorded his observations in letters.

His biography,
"Memoir of C. W. Andrews" by the Rev. Cornelius Walker, D.D., professor of theology at Virginia Theological Seminary, was published in 1877.

We are looking for copies of materials written by Rev. Dr. C. W. Andrews, such as the tract, "Our War, Our Cause, and Our Duty" addressed to the Confederate soldiers.
